چکیده

In order to allow programmers to follow conventional techniques while creating applications that uses an internet, software in the internet must provide the same semantics as a conventional computer system, it means it must guarantee reliable communication. Transport protocol provides reliability, which is fundamental for all the applications. The transmission Control protocol (TCP) is the transport level protocol that provides a completely reliable connection –oriented, full duplex stream transport service that allows two application programs to form a connection, send data in either direction, and then terminate the connection. Wireless multihop ad-hoc networks are network systems that can be deployed without relying on any infrastructure such as base stations hence are mobile networks such networks causes packet losses due to congestion and transmission errors . here a packet level model is proposed to investigate the impact of channel errors on the TCP performance over IEEE802.11 based multihop wireless networks A markov renewal approach is used to analyze the behaviour of TCP – Vegas . This paper motivates and describes the three key techniques employed by Vegas, and presents the results of a comprehensive experimental performance study—using both simulations and measurements the model takes into account the different proportions between the interference range and transmission range and adopting more accurate and realistic analysis to the fast recovery process. The results show that the impact of the channel error is reduced significantly due to the packet retransmissions on a per-hop basis and a small bandwidth delay product of ad hoc networks

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

A Rate-adaptive MAC Protocol Based on TCP Throughput for Ad Hoc Networks in fading channels

Wireless technology is becoming a leading option for future Internet access. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the protocols designed on the basis of the transmission characteristics in wired networks. It is known that the TCP performance deteriorates drastically under a wireless communication environment. On the other hand, many wireless networking standards such as IEEE 802.11a, 8...

Enhanced Rate-based Transmission control for TCP in ad hoc Networks

This paper studies TCP performance over multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks that use the IEEE 802.11 protocol as the access method. The aim is to improve the TCP fairness while keeping the algorithm as simple as possible, since in previous works the algorithm designs were more complicated. We propose a simple approach to improve fairness based on scheduling (pacing) new packets according to the ...

On Interaction between MAC and Transport Layers for Media Streaming in 802.11 Ad-hoc Networks

We examine the validity of TCP-friendliness and the utility of equation-based congestion control as a mean for the media streaming service in 802.11 multi-hop networks. Our investigation is motivated by the recent findings of the bandwidth-delay product of 802.11 multi-hop networks via intensive computer simulations. We show that TCP behavior in 802.11 multi-hop networks is generally inefficien...

Improving the Performance of TCP in the Presence of Interacting UDP Flows in Ad Hoc Networks

In this paper, we study how fairness affects the performance of TCP over ad hoc networks with IEEE 802.11 at the MAC layer. The problem addressed is that the throughput of TCP flows degrades severely in the presence of heavily loaded UDP flows. Our contribution is twofold. First, we identify the factors affecting the TCP throughput by providing a micro-analysis of the performance at a level of ...

Throughput Improvement in Wireless Multi-Hop Ad-Hoc Networks Using Load Control

IEEE 802.11 MAC is the most commonly used protocol in multi-hop ad-hoc networks which need no infrastructure. In multi-hop ad-hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11, since nodes try transmitting their packets at every possible slot, there is a high packet loss probability. This degrades network performance attributes such as throughput and fairness. In this paper, we focus on achieving the maximum t...
